A sticky question

ADELAIDE HILLS, AUSTRALIA I am surrounded by gum trees. Or to give them their proper name: eucalyptus. Everywhere I go I see their tell-tale white trunks with the debris of fallen bark at their feet. And all I can think to ask is: if they are gum trees why doesn't the bark stay stuck on?
