Speed cameras, the local press and road safety
ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA Each week and at weekends The Advertiser here publishes a list of where speed cameras are operating. As the list is published with the cooperation of the South Australia Police, one can reasonably deduce that the rozzers here in SA are more concerned with reducing speeding than raising revenue.

The idea behind the system is that if you know there is a speed camera operating on a particular road (even if you don't know exactly where it is on the road) you will not speed. Surely preventing people from speeding in the first place is better than taking punitive action against those who commit the offence? Prevention is better than the cure.

The Chief Constable of Hertfordshire would probably lose his life at the thought of such a positive method!

They're doing that in IReland now. And the locations of the speed traps are actually on the Garda website! Prevention, they say.
